OBITUARY ANDREW EDSOR
It was with great sadness that we, at the International Association of Cape Horners, learned of the passing of Andrew Edsor, on 12th August 2024.
Andrew was a very proud Cape Horner. He was a crew member on British Soldier, a yacht that took part in the original Whitbread Round the World Race in 1973. For the crews of the seventeen yachts from seven countries, it was a gruelling, hugely demanding race, the first of its kind, so special that it is etched in the annals of history.
Andrew continued his interest in Cape Horn and ocean sailing and later joined the committee of the IACH, providing considerable input with his wealth of ideas. In his most recent years on the committee, he served as Website Designer & Developer, an important role which established the presence of the Cape Horners on the Internet.
By 2023, Andrew had been unwell for a considerable time but he still made a heroic effort to join us at the November Annual Lunch in Portsmouth.
At his 80th birthday event in June this year, he enthusiastically told his many family members and friends that he had served on the IACH Committee for 18 years – an outstanding contribution. We will miss him.
‘The IACH offers its deepest sympathy to Andrew’s family and those who knew him best.
